|Trail:||WHITTINGTON CASTLE, SHROPSHIRE|
|Contributor:||stephenmaskery||Activity Type:||Walking||Difficulty:||Easy||Distance:||6.557 mi (10.553 km)|
|Description:||Not everywhere in the Welsh Borders is hilly. This relatively flat walk explores the banks of the Llangollen branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, and offers the opportunity to explore the only castle in England run by the local community - Whittington Castle. And intriguingly, the coat of arms of the original castle owners, the Fulk Fitzwarines, has similarities to the coat of arms of a certain Dick Whittington, Lord Mayor of London.
Is it for me? Country lanes, canal towpaths, fields containing crops and livestock. Some areas can be boggy
