Trail: 10 Peaks - alternative route (1)
Contributor: 10peaks Activity Type: Hiking Difficulty: Expert Distance: 43.766 mi (70.435 km)
Description: The 10 Peaks Challenge is a 24 hour charity walk/ run which takes in all of the 10 highest peaks in the Lake District, a course of well over 70km with more than 5600m of ascent. This route shows an alternative route which comes down from Scafell to Wasdale Head then to Pillar via Wind Gap, then to Great Gable avoiding Kirk Fell and back to Honister Slate Mine to refuel. This route greatly reduces the amount of back-tracking necessary and shortens the route but adds more ascent mainly because of the tough climb from Mosedale Beck to Pillar.
