Trail: Sithean Chumhaing (0)
Contributor: markroberts Activity Type: Trail Running Difficulty: Average Distance: 5.715 mi (9.197 km)
Description: In terms of a varied trail this run has it all. From wooded tracks, rolling mini grass summits to coastal ridges! Head up through a steep tight knit wooded track past the beautifully located Cuillin Hills Hotel on your right. Where the trail opens out follow the sign post marked Torvaig to the left past farm outbuildings. Continue up the steep hill past the Clan Nicolson Memorial. The way eases from here and to get the best from the run, it is recommended that you keep close to the cliff edge as is safe, thereby getting the maximum enjoyment from what is a superb coastal run. Upon reaching the trig point on the Chumhaing summit the feeling of self achievement mixed with some of the best views on the island will leave you speechless! Panning 360' clockwise from the village of Portree you'll see the iconic Old Man of Storr, Mainland Gairloch and the Applecross, Isle of Raasay to the mighty Cuillin hills and Ben Tianavaig. Follow the same route down and when past the farm out buildings near left, to complete the Scorrybreac Circuit. Zigzag down and around to meet the colourful building of Portree Pier to your starting point.
