|Description:||Dalby Forest, North York Moors
Dalby Forest is a mountain bikers' paradise as well as a setting for international two-wheeled competition and an outdoor live music venue. It's also a trail runner's dream with lots of tracks to choose from.
Dalby perches on the southern edges of the North Yorkshire Moors within the National Park. This route from reader John Murfin is a woody wonder, a glorious loop from the High Rigg Farm campsite at Dalby, which makes a great base for a weekend visit to the area.
Follow the trail through the forest on good tracks and fire paths before dropping to the valley and following the beck to the visitor centre. From here it climbs back to the campsite giving a hilly end to the run to test those quads and glutes.
There's lots of options here to extend your run and explore the many trails through the trees, enjoying the peace and serenity of a woodland wander.
Get ready to get muddy if the weather has been unkind and look out for a great range of wildlife hiding in the forest.
Dalby has a café at the visitor centre and it is also well equipped for picnics.
