Contributor: markroberts Activity Type: Trail Running Difficulty: Hard Distance: 18.939 mi (30.479 km)
Description: Exmoor National Park covers 267 square miles of hilly, open moorland across the Devon/Somerset border. It includes the Brendon Hills, East Lyn Valley, Vale of Porlock and 34 miles of spectacular Bristol Channel coastline. This adventurous run takes in the full range of Exmoor's varied landscapes and exciting running terrain. Starting in the depths of the tranquil Doone Valley, head straight for the sea and the South West Coast Path. Take in far-reaching views from the dramatic cliffs at Foreland Point before plunging down the steep trail into the centre of Lynmouth - keep an eye out for the resident goats. Follow a magical stretch of the Two Moors Way along the River Lyn before ascending steeply onto open moorland and the Iron Age hill fort of Roborough Castle. Breathtaking ridge running returns you to the Doone Valley and an optional but delightful 7-mile loop back up and over the wild and windswept moors of Brendon Common and down along the banks of Badgworthy Water again.
