Trail: Swiss Valley Walk - Lower Lleidi Reservoir (0)
Contributor: NatResWales Activity Type: Walking Difficulty: Easy Distance: 0.787 mi (1.266 km)
Description: This walk follows the Lleidi Reservoir in the beautiful Swiss Valley just north of Llanelli. You will see an abundance of wildlife from overwintering ducks to damsel and dragonflies. The woodlands are filled with bird songs and spring flowers.
The west side surfaced path is accessible for all.
The upper and lower Lleidi Reservoirs were created between 1878 and 1905 to bring water an important resource to the local metal industries and as a good supply of clean water to the area. The reservoirs are nestled in the beautiful Swiss Valley which is north of Llanelli. The reservoirs provide a haven for migratory and non migratory birds, including waterfowl. In the spring there is an abundance of wild flowers and insects that feed on the nectar. The surrounding woodlands are carpeted with bluebells in late spring and early summer.

There is a bird hide on the quieter upper reservoir. It is also a popular place for fishing as the upper reservoir is stocked with rainbow and brown trout. The accessible path runs from the middle car park between the two reservoirs and follows a linear path down to the bottom of the lower reservoir.

Walk distance: 1 mile

Terrain: The accessible path has a tarmac surface and runs along the western side of the lower reservoir. Most of the other paths have a good surface but can be muddy at times and stout walking boots are recommended.
