||This is the 5th day of the Cape Wrath Ultra. A day of average length, it is typically remote for this race, and takes runners through the revered wilderness of Fisherfield Forest. The route leaves Kinlochewe northwards alongside the picturesque Abhainn Bruachaig river, and gradually ascends over 10km to Lochan Fada, the gateway to Fisherfield. A sharp right at a tiny cairn marks the uphill and trackless ascent over the bealach below Beinn Tarsuinn - a proud munro - to find the very remote territory of the Nid glen. Eventually, up ahead, you will see the towering jagged edge of An Teallach. Rising up a steep track takes you out of this vast landscape and towards the forested Corrie Hallie road pass. There is a further optional 8km stage on sweet hill trails, not topping 400m, that take you to Inverbroom/Inverlael, but you might be burst by then, and head for the Dundonnell Hotel for rewards. Miraculously, this remote stage will have been completed with very few bridges and no big river crossings. That's surely a merit!
