|Description:||The peaceful Parc Coetir Bargoed has 11 sculpted gateways, which help to make it a unique and unusual place to walk. It has been created out of three collieries, which have changed the landscape from scarred land to a green oasis of beauty. The flat terraces are now home to a diverse wildlife.
Parc Coetir Bargoed has been shaped by the remains of three collieries that existed here, Gilfach, Bargoed and Britannia. It is steeped in coal mining history and the community that lives nearby have seen many loved ones give their lives to the mines in the past.
It took nine years to create this green space and now the river that flows through it is home to dippers, herons and kingfishers.
Now it is a haven for the wildlife that thrive in this green and pleasant valley. It is a great place for the family as there are 11 sculpted gates that commemorate the mine to be discovered here including the statues that commemorate the three mines.
