Trail: Kirkby Lonsdale (0)
Contributor: markroberts Activity Type: Trail Running Difficulty: Average Distance: 9.547 mi (15.364 km)
Description: Start from Barbon church, four miles up the road from Kirkby Lonsdale. Meander through beckside woodland for a warm-up until the glory of Barbondale opens out in front of you - this is the scene of the Barbon fell race with its notoriously steep ascent and descent. From here it's a short section of tarmac then bridleway up to Bullpot Farm and ultimately up to Brownthwaite summit. Glance across the valley as you ascend the hill to see Leck Fell House, just below the summit of Gragareth - said to be the highest sheep station in Lancashire at 1300 feet. Charge back down via moorland, a short length of quiet road, green lane and farmland back to historic Devil's Bridge. Cross, then trot along the river, up the Radical Steps and pause to take in Ruskin's View - as painted by Turner. Through the churchyard and you're in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale.
