Ordnance Survey Map Symbols

Originating in 1791 from the Board of Ordnance – the defence ministry of the day, Ordnance Survey is best known today for its paper maps. Ordnance Survey produce around 650 different recreational and leisure maps, including maps for walking maps for cycling and maps for mountain biking.

But today it is digital mapping has taken over as the main focus for Ordnance Survey. As 80% of all information collected in Britain has some geographic feature to it – from the location of people, buildings, and postcodes to administrative boundaries the Ordnance Survey unique and widely recognised set of OS Map Symbols sets them apart from the competition.
