There are several different types of OS Maps produced by Ordnance Survey suited to specific uses. The most commonly known are the OS Explorer Maps and the OS Landranger Maps.
The OS Explorer Map uses a 4cm to 1km (2½ inches to 1 mile) scale 1 : 25000, and has been adopted by many individuals and organisations involved in outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, horse riding , climbing and water sports. Every part of England, Scotland and Wales is covered by 403 maps that include National Trails, Recreational Paths, picnic areas, viewpoints and selected places of interest. In addition, there’s Rights of Way information for England and Wales. We have provided more information on OS Map Symbols here.
OS Landranger Maps use a larger scale 1 : 50000 . This gives a greater level of detail. This makes Ordnance Survey Landranger Maps Ideal for the tourist; this is the OS map for planning day trips, short breaks and road cycling in towns or in the countryside. 204 titles covering England, Scotland & Wales.
